P L A Y

We believe that learning and play are inextricably linked. Play provides an opportunity for independence, discovery, problem-solving, and socialization, alongside the learning that happens as humans engage with the world. Kids are naturally curious and we are here to encourage their questions! As we play and explore through nature, art, farm, and sensory experiences, kids will learn new things, build self-confidence, and practice valuable life skills. Learners, alongside Leaders, will investigate their top queries about science, history, and culture through Socratic discussion and critical analysis. Each 9-week session also builds essential math, literacy, and writing skills, aligned with Georgia State Standards and adapted to the abilities and interests of each Learner.

We are proud to offer programs that honor each child and meet them where they are. Kids are encouraged to explore and create at their own pace, in whatever way feels right to them. Leaders encourage personal growth in Learners with gentle nudges and friendly collaboration. Our program also prioritizes time outside, enhancing our connection to nature and the opportunities for learning it provides. Our priorities are safety, growth, and connection for all in our group. As a community, we value mutual respect, responsibility, accountability, and intentionality as we move through the rhythms of our day.

E N G A G E

At Spruce Learning Co., we are passionate about maintaining a connection to our community, both close by and at large. This includes connecting with individuals, our location, our families, and the spaces we inhabit far and wide. We focus on building strong relationships as the foundation for confident learning and exploration.

Social emotional learning is a vital part of educating the whole child. At Spruce Learning, we take time to discuss problems, fears, and anxieties, whether they are social, personal, or academic. Learners are given the space to find their comfort and are offered warm support from Leaders before jumping into new experiences and challenges. Leaders prioritize connection above all else and are skilled at finding common ground with every Learner. We are sensitive to and welcome each Learner’s way of experiencing the world!

Spruce Learning Co. seeks to create a community of tolerance, acceptance, and love. We do not allow acts of intolerance, hate, and bullying in our community and will endeavor to protect our Learners at every turn.

Each session, Learners and Families can expect to engage with all parts of our world, from the hyper-local to the global! We will do so by active engagement, but also through reading, storytelling, language, music, art, and material culture from around the world.

We also welcome family input! Contact Amanda if you are interested in volunteering or contributing.

  • Spruce Learning Co. is committed to providing content and programs that are inclusive, secular, and anti-bias. We welcome families of all world religions, identities, and social groups. Spruce Learning Co. values diversity, environmental stewardship, evidence-based science, and human rights and incorporates values of justice in all teachings & activities.

These are a sampling of ways Learners and Families can expect to engage with their local, regional, and global community.
    Local:
-Learners will care for our location as part of each session - think chicken check-ups and pasture surveying.
-Learners will run their own quarterly event and reinvest in the local community whenever possible.
-Families will engage with local businesses and organizations on our group outings and public events.

    Regional:
-Spruce Learning Co. will participate in larger local events like farmer’s markets, fairs, and parades.
-We will utilize state resources to learn about our environment, and prioritize local place-based learning opportunities.
-Learners & Leaders will host one learning event/project (like a science fair or art show) & coordinate one service project per season. Service projects will be Learner-led and could be as small as planting wildflowers for pollinators or as large as a fundraiser or volunteer day.

    Global:
-Learners will build a respectful awareness of the world and all of its inhabitants, customs, and practices through study and first-hand experiences.
-Learners & families will have the opportunity to travel internationally once per year with Spruce Learning Co. Homeschool Travel.
